Bring these items to the class
?Purchase, Size, & prepare your Pattern – Newlook 6585. Pattern will be available in the shop.
?Quilt – For an XL view A the bare minimum size is 84”x84” . The
larger the quilt, the more options you will have to fussy cut. NOTE:
Any length between View A & C is possible based on the length of
your quilt.
?Prepared Bias Binding before class- The amount of binding you
need will depend on your choice of finishes. Please do not bring store
bought bias binding. You will need two binding sizes.
?Prepare 1-1/2” inner bias binding- 2 yard bias binding for
neck/hood seams. Do not fold and iron. You may need more if
you decide to bind the inner seams of the jacket for a
reversible look. So, please bring extra material just in case.
?2-1/4” outer bias binding – The amount you need will vary
depending on the length you choose. View A requires ~275”.A
good starting point is 4 yards folded bias binding (do not make
the mistake of buying 3-4 yards of material to create this).
Fold in half, length wise, and iron like quilt binding. This is for
jacket front and bottom, around hood, pockets, & cuff.
?Minimum tools required.
?Sewing machine for straight & zig zag stitch.
?A marking pen, or chalk
Preparations for students making the Newlook 6585
Quilted coat
?Coordinating threads for binding, buttons etc.
?Stiff pins and clips
?1/4” foot
?General purpose foot for zigzag & creating 5/8” seams.
?Good scissors for cutting multiple layers, and also paper
scissors.
?Needle & thread if hand sewing your binding.
?Jean needle
Other Recommended Tools
?Walking foot
?Binding foot – Baby lock & Brother have a reasonably
inexpensive foot for this. I HIGHLY RECCOMENDED this for
machine sewing binding. There may be similar options for other
brands.
?Serger - if you want to serge seams vs zigzag.
?Snaps or Buttons – your choice
?Buttonhole foot (if adding buttons)
?Stiletto or awl
?Extra needles.
?Additional binding material
NOTE: Students must know how to operate their machine.
